Arts and Culture

Greater Hazleton has a rich history of arts and cultural activities for all ages.

For those who love the stage, there are several theater companies, dance schools and orchestras who provide performances throughout the year. The area is also home to many historical sites, most notably Eckley Miners Village, which gives visitors a glimpse into the region’s coal mining heritage.

If you enjoy more traditional art – like painting, working with clay or creating stained-glass pieces, visit the Hazleton Art League, which is housed in the Hayden Family Center for the Arts right in Downtown Hazleton. They offer classes for children and adults in a wide variety of visual arts mediums.

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce hosts the annual Funfest street festival, which features food, arts and crafts vendors, games and activities, and the signature Funfest Parade with giant cold-air balloons.

The area is also home to several libraries and religious institutions that provide the community with a deeper cultural education. The Hazleton Area Public Library’s main branch is right across from Hazleton City Hall and has something for everyone.

Those seeking religious connection can find a wide variety of houses of worship – including Catholic, Lutheran and Reform Presbyterian, Episcopal, Jewish, Apostolic, Assembly of God, Baptist, Congregational, Jehovah’s Witness, Methodist, Reformed Baptist, Spanish and Unitarian – as well as non-denominational outlets.
